The Recipe How-To
Now that you have all the ingredients sorted and ready to go, it’s time to get cooking! This recipe is fairly easy and can be completed in under 30 minutes, making it a great option for busy weeknights when you don’t have much time.
Step 1: Cooking the pasta
The first step is to cook the farfalle pasta according to package directions. Be sure to add a tablespoon of olive oil and some salt to the water before adding the pasta. Once cooked, drain the pasta and set it aside.
Step 2: Preparing the sausage
While the pasta is cooking, heat up some olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Remove the casings from 2 chicken sausages and add them to the skillet with some diced onions and garlic cloves. Cook until sausage is no longer pink, and onions are tender.
Step 3: Adding tomatoes and spices
Once your sausage is cooked, add in canned tomatoes, some black pepper, a dash of red pepper flakes, and a pinch of salt. Simmer over medium heat for about 10 minutes or until the sauce thickens.
Step 4: Making the cream sauce
In a saucepan over low heat, combine half-and-half cream with shredded Parmesan cheese until melted. Add in some fresh chopped basil, salt, and black pepper to taste. Stir it into your tomato sauce to create a creamy tomato sauce.
Step 5: Bringing it all together
Add your cooked pasta directly into your creamy tomato sauce mixture, then toss everything together gently so that each piece of pasta is coated evenly in delicious flavors.
Step 6: Serving
Serve garnished with extra parmesan cheese or fresh basil leaves according to your taste preference.
With these easy-to-follow steps, you can make this delicious chicken sausage farfalle recipe in no time at all. Your homemade Italian-style feast will quickly become one of your favorite recipes.
Substitutions and Variations
If you love experimenting in the kitchen like I do, then you’re going to enjoy this section. While this recipe is already packed with delicious flavors, there are some substitutions and variations you can try to make it even more exciting.
First off, let’s talk about the meat. While chicken sausage is a great choice for this recipe as it’s lean and full of flavor, you can also use turkey sausage, sweet or spicy Italian sausage, or even bacon. Just remember to remove the casings before cooking.
For those who prefer a vegetarian version of this dish, try substituting the meat with artichoke hearts or mushrooms. Sauté them in olive oil until they’re tender and browned, then toss them into the pasta.
If you’re not a fan of onions, try using leeks instead. They add a subtle sweetness to the dish without overpowering it.
For those looking for a healthier option, try using whole wheat farfalle or spinach pasta instead of regular farfalle. You’ll still get that same delicious taste but with added nutritional benefits.
And for those feeling particularly adventurous, try adding in some sun-dried tomatoes or roasted red peppers for a burst of flavor. Or swap out the half-and-half cream for coconut milk to give it a tropical twist.
Whatever substitutions or variations you decide to go with, just remember to have fun and make it your own. The possibilities are endless with this versatile and delicious recipe!
Serving and Pairing
When it comes to serving up this delicious chicken sausage farfalle, the possibilities are endless. This dish is perfect for any occasion, whether it’s a quick weeknight meal or a fancy dinner party.
To bring out the flavors in this dish even more, I recommend pairing it with a nice glass of red wine. A bold Italian wine such as Barolo or Chianti would pair perfectly with the savory flavors of the sausage and garlic.
For a lighter option, you could also try pairing this dish with a crisp white wine like Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. These wines will help balance out the heat from the red pepper flakes while still complementing the creaminess of the sauce.
If wine isn’t your thing, you could also pair this dish with a light beer like a lager or pilsner. The subtle hop flavors will help cut through the richness of the sauce and sausage.
As for serving, I recommend garnishing each plate with some fresh basil and grated Parmesan cheese to really bring out the flavors of this dish. You could also serve it alongside some crusty bread and a side salad for a complete meal.
No matter how you choose to serve and pair this chicken sausage farfalle recipe, one thing’s for sure: it’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser!
Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating
Now, let’s talk about the practical side of making this chicken sausage farfalle recipe. It’s perfect for those busy weeknights when cooking seems like an impossible task. That’s why I love this recipe because it can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator or freezer for later use.
If you’re making this dish ahead of time, be sure to follow the recipe instructions carefully and fully cook the pasta. Then, transfer the farfalle into an airtight container and place it in the fridge for up to 3 days, or in the freezer for up to 3 months.
When you’re ready to reheat the dish, simply remove it from the fridge or freezer and let it sit on your countertop to thaw. If you’ve stored it in the fridge, you can reheat it in a microwave or in a saucepan on a low heat setting. If you’re reheating from frozen, bake it in an oven preheated at 350F until heated through.
Moreover, if you’re looking to adjust the recipe to serve more people, you can easily double or triple the ingredients used. Store any leftovers in an airtight container and keep them refridgerated for up to three days. The next day when reheating, sprinkle a good amount of parmesan cheese before microwaving.
These make-ahead and storing tips will help you enjoy your tasty farfalle pasta even on your busiest day!
Tips for Perfect Results
Good job, my fellow culinarians! You are about to create a delicious chicken sausage farfalle recipe that will certainly leave your mouth watering. To achieve perfect results, here are some helpful tips to guide you along the way:
First and foremost, remember that salt and pepper are your best friends when it comes to seasoning – make sure to use both generously throughout cooking to enhance the flavor of the dish. However, be careful not to overdo it with chili pepper flakes. These little guys pack a significant punch, and too much can quickly turn your meal into an inferno.
When cooking the pasta, follow the package instructions for boiling time, and don’t forget to add salt to the water. It is crucial to avoid overcooking the pasta, as this can cause it to become mushy and unappetizing in texture. Keep an eye out for al dente consistency – firm yet tender.
While sautéing garlic and onions in olive oil can help bring out a delightful aroma in any dish, be mindful not to burn the garlic. Overly browned garlic can easily turn bitter, which would negatively affect the taste of your farfalle pasta.
The key ingredient for this recipe is chicken sausage – make sure you cook it well with no pink color remaining. This way, you ensure that it is thoroughly cooked and ready for consumption. For a crispier sausage or more charred density, opt to bake them in the oven or grill them.
If you want an extra creamy texture and flavor from your sauce, I suggest trying half-and-half cream rather than heavy cream when making the sauce. Add in parmesan cheese little by little instead of all at once so that it fully incorporates into the sauce smoothly.
Finally, fresh basil is a game-changer when added as a garnish on top of this dish. The aromatic scent of fresh basil complements perfectly with farfalle garlicky flavor and parmesan creaminess.
Bear these tips in mind, fellow foodies! Your chicken sausage farfalle will be second-to-none with these tricks up your sleeve!
And there you have it, folks! The chicken sausage farfalle recipe is a delicious and hearty pasta dish that is sure to impress your loved ones.
